Artist Statement:
When I was younger, my father got a new Canon Rebel T3i camera. Because of this, his old camera was passed down to me, and I gladly accepted it. I spent every day going outside taking shots, messing around with the settings, trying to ge the most asthetic shot of a ratty of Lacrosse goal that I could. I loved photography. Getting the oppertunity to capture moments in a persons life or my own life, was time well spent in my head. Now, 7 years later, I still carry that passion for artistic photos that I did when I was just taking random shots in my backyard in 5th grade.
My work is rarely planned, I don’t have too many ideas of what I want my work to look like before I start going in on it. I have always been worried about art classes, I have always thought that I was not creative enough, that I didn’t have what the other guys had. However, as my work has progressed, I have begun to understand that my work is uniquely me, and that is all that truly matters. When I start a piece of work, I roll with the punches, and in the end, a finished piece of work comes out the other side.
With my work, I want to create an idea of “simple” in my viewers eyes. My work is not intended to be very intricate, in fact, I intend to do quite the opposite. In the same way that impressionistic art tends to confuse an audience because it is so basic yet so detailed, I aim to do the same. I want to show the viewer something that looks basic, but can either tell a story, or evoke and emotion. My work will display the same energy I had as a 5th grade kid with a crappy camera, but in a much more focused and purposful format.
